Therapy and counseling services add an additional level of support to the hospice services provided by All Caring Hospice for Patients and their Families in Youngstown Ohio and the surrounding Communities in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Ashtabula, Geauga, Portage, Stark, Carroll and Jefferson Counties.

Therapy and counseling services are non-invasive, holistic practices which do not replace the medical, social, or spiritual care of the hospice team. Instead these practices promote comfort and wholeness for both patients and their families. Therapy and counseling sessions are provided by staff and volunteers of the All Caring hospice team.

All Caring Hospice provides consultations and education on physical, occupational and speech therapies as well as nutritional counseling..

Nutrition counseling is used to assist patients with dietary health needs or concerns. All Caring’s dietitians support patients who may be at a nutritional risk due to their physical health status or diagnosis.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy would be recommended for the comfort of the patient to assist with mobility and to keep them safe in their environment to enhance their quality of life. Physical therapy not only helps patients improve strength, but promotes overall emotional health and well-being. Often the physical therapist can provide education to caregivers on basic exercises or safe mobility practices.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy may be recommended to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) to help keep patients safe. Sometime performing the simplest tasks can make hospice patients feel extremely vulnerable. Our occupational therapists work with patient’s to develop and maintain manual dexterity needed to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, eating and dressing. This type of support is often provided through education to the family.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy may be used to evaluate the patient’s ability to swallow, allow a patient to eat properly or to assist them with verbal communication.

For hospice patients and individuals with compromised health, the ability to effectively communicate is vital to keeping them engaged with family members, caregivers and medical professionals. In addition to helping improve a patient’s ability to communicate, speech therapists can educate caregivers and family members how they can help their loved one’s progress.

Nutritional Counseling

All Caring Hospice also provides consultations and education on dietary requirements and intake. A nutritional counselor (Dietitian) is available as a resource to the hospice team members as well as patients and their families. They can provide assistance in several ways to help with the nutritional issues that occur with terminally ill patients. Nutritional Counselors can provide nutritional assessments of the patient, offer suggestions and recommendations for proper nutrient intake, inform and educate patients and family members about potential nutrition or hydration issues.
