The Importance of Bereavement Counseling in Hospice Care
By R. Bruce Dalglish of Philadelphia
When most people think about hospice care, they think of terminally ill patients receiving care during the last months of their lives. But what most people forget is that hospice care also provides essential support for the families of those patients.
Losing a loved one is usually the most tragic and painful experience in a person’s life, and that’s why at All Caring Hospice we provide grieving and bereavement counseling to the families of our terminally ill patients.
Just as it is for hospice patients, emotional support, compassion and understanding is extremely important for their families. All Caring Hospice offers experienced grief specialists who provide families with opportunities to heal and regain their normal lives after the death of a loved one.
People have different views about life and death and everyone experiences grief differently. For some, the grief period lasts for several months or a year, while others may never fully recover from their loss without proper support.
Our trained bereavement counselors engage with hospice patients and their families both during group meetings and one-on-one conversations to provide support and emotional comfort when it’s needed the most.
